From the man behind successful restaurants Drouant and Mon Viel Ami, Antoine Westermann’s ‘bistrotisserie’ (a pimped rotisserie, if you like) feels like a chic mountain chalet retreat. His gourmet poultry dishes are served in an elegant white-walled space lined with sleek banquettes, in the heights of Montmartre’s Rue Lepic.

At €95 for a whole chicken for two to four people, this is a traditional rotisserie in name only; but the payoff is there in those fabulous dishes, and in the list of quality poultry producers name-checked on the menu. If you’re coming with friends, book the communal table d’hôte in the back room, where the white cabin walls are covered in wine bottles, including an excellent Faugères at €29. You can also sit at the open rotisserie bar and watch the turning birds go golden brown.

La Coupole in Montparnasse is the most famous of grand Parisian brasseries. An Art Deco triumph on an extraordinary scale, its famously vast dining room was once regularly graced by the top tiers of the artistic Rive Gauche set like Picasso, Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir. People still come here from all over the world, to marvel at its splendour - all 1000 square metres and 33 pillars of it - and to people watch, a timeless La Coupole pastime. The terrace tables in particular are perfect for watching life go by over a coffee and a crêpe Suzette. If you want an absolutely classic Parisian large « brasserie » experience without spending too much, try La Coupole.

Boney M's 'Ra Ra Rasputin' sets the tone perfectly for this trendy Russian-themed nightclub - a former luxury bordello turned cabaret, once frequented by ‘Le tout Paris’, including Gainsbourg. Nowadays it’s still rather ‘ra ra’, attracting a young, moneyed crew into its red velvet, pink-neoned, Byzantine-style interior, for nightlong parties à la Eastern Bloc. For the first part of the evening, there’s no escaping Russia: you dine on beef Stroganoff, caviar and vodka while watching knife throwers and burlesque dancers. But after 11pm the West creeps back in with a vengeance, with red-hot electro-pop mixed by the capital’s best DJs. Just dress up if you want to get in – Chez Raspoutine’s bouncers are very selective.

Built in 1974 on the site of the old station, this 209m (686ft) steel-and-glass monolith is actually shorter than the Eiffel Tower, but better placed for fabulous views of the city - including, of course, the Eiffel Tower itself. A lift whisks you up in 38 seconds to the 56th floor, where you'll find a display of aerial scenes of Paris, an upgraded café-lounge, a souvenir shop - and lots and lots of sky. On a clear day you can see up to 40km (25 miles). Another lift takes you all the way up to the roof. Classical concerts are held on the terrace. The food is usually french even if a foreign chef comes everymonth to make us discover new culinary culture. Be there for the  exceptional sightseeing but not for the quality of food, you could have better for the same price.

For the beer lover , Paris is not a promised land. Understatement. One can also enjoy the best of Leffe , Hoegaarden one or , more rarely, a Guinness .

Ideas and Bread

Located at the corner between  34 rue de Marseille and rue Yves Toudic , this shop was founded in1870. A little bit of culture? 

Built on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition of 1900, the Grand Palais is a Parisian monuments that best reflects the grace and French culture. Steeped in history, this masterpiece of the Belle Epoque has 77000m2 under its glass dome and metal number of exhibitions and prestigious exhibitions.

Régine was once a key figure on the Paris nightlife scene, and the club she created is experiencing a rejuvenation. Her portrait still sits by the entrance for a touch of '70s nostalgia, but the revamped venue has shifted from disco to sophisticated electro, inviting the cream of international DJs to the decks.
